The Mortar Hardness meter RSM from DRC (Italy) has been developed with 30 years of experience in designing and manufacturing non-destructive testing instruments. The instrument follows the tragic 2012 earthquake in Emilia-Romagna, Italy.
The Mortar Hardness meter measures the response to the needle stroke penetration into the mortar and correlates the results with the mechanical properties of the material.
The tool provides information on the quality and homogeneity of mortar, both throughout its thickness and by comparison at various points within the structure being tested.
The purpose of the mortar hardness meter is to provide information on the resistance of the mortar to the impact of a steel needle powered by constant impact energy.
The result shown by the instrument is the ratio of the depth of needle penetration to the number of strokes. Correlation curves can be constructed and used to provide an indicative estimate of the mechanical strength of the mortar relative to the penetration depth.
